What are Smart Speakers? Why are they getting so Popular?



   A smart speaker is a wireless speaker with voice activated digital assistants, which with the help of Wifi and Bluetooth connection  can perform the task that are given (said) to it.
 
   With the help of smart speakers, we have brought the dream of controlling the technology on our voice commands into reality. The smart speakers work on the voice recognition technology which enables it to understand the tasks and act upon it.
 

      Smart speakers are not only for entertainment or playing songs but also to control the home. For eg. , It can turn on and off the lights and fans, close and open the curtains, etc.

     Different companies have their own voice assistants and their own speakers based on those voice assistants.

  • Amazon's - Alexa



  • Apple's - Siri



  • Microsoft's - Cortana



  • Samsung's - Bixby


   All of those work only when connected to a wifi connection. A smart speakers starts listening to the people with a wake up call. It generally starts with the word 'Hey’ and the name of the voice assistant. For example, The Amazon's smart speaker will star listening only when someone says 'Hey alexa' and then asking the question or task to perform.

    The companies manufacturing these smart speakers have come up with their own series of smart speakers. It started with Amazon unveiling its 'Echo' speaker in 2016. Meanwhile the tech giant Google launched its Google Home  also in 2016. A year later in 2017, Apple launched its smart speaker Home Pod with its virtual assistant Siri support. Their price in market ranges from $50 to $400. Thus, you can buy these smart speakers at your preference and fitting in your budget.
