Google will now charge Chinese manufacturers for Play
store apps. These are some of the the companies to
be affected.
There are millions of apps on Google Play Store. Many apps are available for free for Android smartphone users and for some have to be purchased However, Google has now decided to charge money for apps on the Play Store. But it will apply only to certain companies. Google is planning to take money from Android manufacturers for Google Play Store and its other mobile apps. Information about this matter is given through a tweet. The tweet said, "plan to charge Chinese manufacturers in the third quarter of 2019, which may include Chinese smartphone majors like ZTE, Xiaomi, Huawei and many other smartphone manufacturers"
In 2018, the European Commission imposed a fine on Google of $5 billion. Also, Google was asked to stop the 'Illegal typing' application available on Android from Google. Subsequently, Google introduced a contractual license agreement for smartphones and tablets shipped in European Economic Area. On which Google started charging $ 40 per device.
After this Google tweet however,
the possibility is that Google will charge money according to country and
device size. Which could cost around $ 2.50. Under the licensing agreement,
smartphone makers have to pay Google for apps like Play Store, Google Maps,
Gmail, Drive, Photo or Google Chrome. Google has kept the base Android OS free.
The smartphone makers but will have to pay
the license fees to get the services of Google. There will be a separate
service fee. According to Google's tweet, companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, ZTE of Chinese smartphone makers will be charged for the service. It is being said that this fee will apply only on 1 February 2019 or any device
activated after it.
