Whats App Gold message is back again with its premium features after 2016, and is spreading wildly through Whats App. But, this time too it is a Hoax and staying away from it is better for your smartphone.

The Whats App Gold message is back again promising to give its premium features to the one who downloads or updates it. Instead of giving premium features, it just downloads malware into your phone. The scam was wildly spread in 2016 and here it is back again in 2019.

In 2016, people were asked to download an update to whats app through the hoax message. On the contrary, Whats App updates are through the app itself and not through a message sent to them. The hoax message promised allows users to video chat, to send 100 pictures at the same time, and delete messages after hours back in 2016. In reality, there is nothing of that sort and video calling has been an official feature on Whats app.

The message currently spread says, "Today the radio was talking about Whats App Gold and it is true. There is a video that will be released tomorrow on Whats App and is called Martinelli. Do not open it. Enter your phone and nothing you do will fix it. Spread the message if you know someone. If you receive a message to update Whats app Gold Do not open it! They just announced that the virus is serious. Send it to everyone.”

If you’ve received the Whats App Gold message or anything similar, here are a few things you can do about it.

  • Official Update Source.

Whats App only updates its application through App store for Iphone and Google Play Store for Android. Any update other than through these sources can potentially harm your device. Also any hoax message claiming to an update to Whats app should be totally ignored.

  • Forwarded Messages

Fake news, malware's, etc are mostly spread through forwarded messages.

Fake news, malware's, etc are mostly spread through forwarded messages. In India, many people have lost their lives due to mob lynching triggered by spread of fake messages. To tackle with this, Whats app has brought in many features such as, labeling the messages as "Forwarded", and limiting the share of messages to five chats only. If you receive any chats that you seem are suspicious, you can see if it has a "forwarded" tag. This will indicate that the message is most likely a spam.

  • Report spam messages

Whats App allows users to report any abusive or spam message on the application. You can find this feature by going to (Settings → About and Help → Contact Us). Here, you can explain the situation along with screenshots for proof.

  • Block users

Many spam messages often come from unknown numbers. If you recognize any message from an unknown number on Whats app, you can block them. The steps for blocking the users on whats app is : (Open the chat → Click on the three dotted menu → click on more →  Block). In this way you can block the user.
