Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi and One Plus top the list with four of their smartphone’s including Xiaomi Mi A1 and One Plus 5t in the top five smartphone’s emitting most amount of radiations according to a report by German Federal Office for Radiation Protection. The list was compiled by Statista of top smartphone’s emitting the most and the least amount of radiation.

The amount of radiation emitted by the smartphone's is known by the SAR value or the Specific Absorption Rate of the smartphone which is also specified on the box packing. The maximum SAR value accepted is 1.6 Watt per kg. The lower the SAR value, the lower is the radiation being emitted by the particular smartphone

Xiaomi Mi A1 launched in 2017 is the smartphone that tops the list with most amount of radiation emitted with a SAR value of 1.7 Watt per kg followed by One Plus5t with a SAR value of 1.68 Watt per kg. Following it is the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 and One Plus 6t with SAR value at 1.58 and 1.55 Watt per kg respectively which is within the limit.

On the contrary, many Samsung smartphone’s are on the list of emitting least amount of radiation. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (0.17), Galaxy A8(0.24), Galaxy S8+(0.26), Galaxy S7 Edge(0.26), Galaxy S9+ (0.29), Galaxy J6+ (0.31), Galaxy J4+ (0.32), Galaxy S8(0.32) are the Samsung smartphone’s that emit least amount of radiation. It also includes models such as LG G7(0.24), LG Q6/Q6+ (0.28) and Motorola G5+ (0.30) and Moto Z(0.30) which emits least amount of radiation. (The amount in the brackets show the SAR value in Watts per kg of that particular model.)

Martin Armstrong, a data journalist at statista states in a post that "There is no universal guideline for safe level of phone radiation, the German certification for environmental friendliness Der Blaue Engel (Blue Angel) only certifies phones that have a specific absorption rate of 0.60 Watts per kg. All of the phones featured here come in at more than double this benchmark."
